$60 million in lotto cash up for grabs
By QMI Agency
TORONTO — Here we go again, lotto lovers. The Lotto Max buzz is back with $60 million in prize money up for grabs in Friday's draw. The jackpot, carried over from July 9, is an estimated $50 million, plus another 10 $1-million Maxmillions prizes. It's the seventh time Maxmillions draws have been added to the main Lotto Max jackpot, which is a big reason for the ongoing popularity of the new cross-Canada draw that was launched in December 2009, said OLG spokeswoman Sarah Kiriliuk. “Canadians want bigger jackpots and the buzz is incredible, mainly due to the Maxmillions prizes that offer more chances to win,” she said. “It's becoming a very popular game.” Ticket sales support that claim, with a 23% increase in sales by the end of Thursday compared to the same time last week. Only a few weeks ago, a $50-million Lotto Max jackpot – one of the biggest lotto wins in Canadian history - was split between a pair of winning ticket purchases in Newfoundland and Saskatchewan. The main jackpot tops out at $50 million, but for every week there's no winner, the number of Maxmillons goes up. So far, there have been 115 Maxmillions winners. Tickets are available until 9 p.m. ET Friday.
