EDMONTON - For Elizabeth and Micheal Kennedy, their $10 million Lotto Max win could not have come at a better time.
Micheal, 31, had just been laid off from his job as an electrician and Elizabeth, 30, had been holding Tupperware parties to supplement their income.
"We thought there was some kind of error," said Elizabeth, collecting the winnings at lottery headquarters in St. Albert Thursday afternoon. "I feel like I am dreaming."
Elizabeth purchased her $6 Quick Pick ticket at the 7-Eleven at 341 Kirkness Road and discovered the win the following Monday.
The first thing she did was call her husband.
The parents of two children say they are too young to stop working.
"We would just get bored and angry with each other and end up divorced two years from now," joked Elizabeth.
Before the big win, Micheal was unable to find work in the city as an electrician and relied on Employment Insurance.
"I kept staying on E.I. I guess I should probably call them!" said Micheal.
The couple said they have plans of travelling within Canada, paying off their bills and will be looking to buy a new house in Edmonton. They also said a new vehicle could also be in their near future.
"You gotta clear the head before you fill it up with ideas," said Micheal.
For now, Micheal says he plans to "live like I am dying."
The couple's winning numbers were 3, 14, 26, 27, 29, 32 and 34.
The bonus was 1.
The lucky streak continues in Edmonton as this was the second Lotto Max jackpot claimed in Edmonton in the last five months.
Cameron Blair of Beaumont took home Alberta's largest ever single lotto claim when he won $41.7 million on the April 23 Lotto Max jackpot.
Edmontonians have not only been cashing in on the Lotto Max, as Edmonton and area have also seen a few Lotto 6/49 jackpot winners as well.
Al Harding raked in a cool $6.6 million on the August 18 draw and plans to restore classic cars and take trips with his winnings.
Just last month a couple in Mayerthorpe took home $16 million.
In April of this year, Joanne Tsetta pocketed $20.6 million in the Lotto 6/49, a jackpot that was shared with another woman in Ontario.
