Winning lottery ticket to expire soon

WINNIPEG — There might be a dusty drawer or cluttered glove box somewhere with a million dollars sitting in it.

A Lotto Max prize of $1 million sold last year hasn't been claimed yet. It expires on April 15.

Andrea Marantz, a spokeswoman for Western Canada Lotteries Corporation, said it's pretty unusual for big prizes to go unclaimed.

"Some people tend to collect tickets and check them when they have a few, sometimes people just forget about them," Marantz said.

A winning ticket worth $1 million expired on March 4.

Unclaimed prize money is rolled back into other lottery prizes.

Marantz said there's nothing much that can be done if a ticket is lost. Unless someone knows exactly when and where the ticket was purchased, there's no way to confirm if a lost ticket was a winner.

The winning numbers for the April 15, 2011, draw were: 1, 4, 16, 31, 43, 48, and 49.
