TORONTO -- Kathryn Jones says she has enjoyed a "wild and wonderful journey" since winning a $50-million lottery prize with a ticket she initially forgot about.

Jones, 54, of Hamilton, Ont., lost and forgot her winning November 2012 Lotto Max ticket until an Ontario Lottery and Gaming prize claim investigation uncovered late last year she had purchased the winner.

"We're very excited for the new opportunities that this windfall affords ourselves and our family," said Jones, who collected her prize on Tuesday. "I'm looking forward to the whole new facet of my life that has been opened up because OLG took the initiative to find me."

Jones added she will now retire from her job as an engineer.
