Elliot Lake, Ont., resident Donald G. Nykiforuk thought he won $11,000 in the Feb. 1 Lotto 6/49 draw.

He was off by more than $11 million.

“I took the ticket to the store to check it, and that’s when the retailer told me I had won the jackpot,” he said Thursday in Toronto, where he claimed his $11,031,692 prize.

Nykiforuk said he was in such shock that he had to sit down at the store.

“My legs were still wobbly when I headed back to my girlfriend’s to share the good news,” he said.

He bought the winning ticket at Huy Convenience Store on King St. in Toronto.
