CALGARY — Maureen Fielding now has five million reasons to get a dog.

The Calgary woman who regularly plays Lotto 6/49 vowed to her teenage daughter they'd add a furry new family member should she ever win get lucky with her picks.

Well, it's time to make good.

Fielding, who plays a regular set of numbers, purchased her ticket on the day of the June 7 draw, but on a whim opted to buy an additional Quick Pick ticket for each of that evening's draws.

Stopping by the Lucky Lottery in the Country Hills Superstore, she purchased both a Lotto 6/49 ticket and Western 649, each for $7.

The next day when she went to check her tickets, she learned she'd won the jackpot.

"I said to the clerk, 'I think this is a big winner,' and she asked, 'How much?'

"Her face turned a different colour when she checked my ticket, and then the screen went blank.”
