'Rally for Canada' in works
Anti-coalition protests planned coast to coast while pro-coalition groups power up online
By DON PEAT, SUN MEDIA

Anti-coalition sentiment is exploding on Facebook with one group garnering almost 50,000 supporters before noon today.

The group, Canadians Against a Liberal/NDP Coalition Gov't, has been gaining steam in the last four days. According to the site, the group had more than 550 members by Saturday, more than 25,000 by Tuesday night and was fast approaching 50,000 before noon Wednesday.

Members are encouraged to email the opposition leaders, the governor general and even Queen Elizabeth. The site also links to the Rally for Canada, a website organizing a cross-country protest Saturday, and several online petitions opposing the coalition.

Along with discussions on how the Canadian parliament works and whether people should refuse to pay taxes to a coalition government, Facebook users that joined the group were also having some fun.

Members had posted a variety of digitally altered photos of the federal leaders including one picture that portrayed Liberal leader Stephane Dion as the emperor from the movie Star Wars while another picture superimposed Prime Minister Stephen Harper's head on Luke Skywalker's lightsaber-weilding body, the caption reading, "I'll never turn to the dark side."

Another of the more than 100 pictures portrayed all three opposition leaders as the Three Stooges.
