Yes, all strikes are always stupid.
No, the feds should butt out of labour negotiations.

Byelection date set for Layton's seat

OTTAWA - A byelection will be held in Jack Layton's former riding on March 12, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

The riding of Toronto-Danforth, which Layton claimed in 2004, has been vacant in the House of Commons since the former NDP leader died from cancer in August.

The Tories recently named communications consultant Andrew Keyes as the candidate in this race and the NDP has nominated law professor Craig Scott. The Liberals have yet to select a byelection candidate.

Toronto-Danforth has traditionally been held by Liberals or New Democrats. Former Grit MP Dennis Mills held the riding for four terms before Layton claimed the seat.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper determined the date of the byelection, which will take place just over a week prior to the NDP leadership convention.

New Democrats will announce their new leader at a Toronto convention on March 24.
