Mayor Ford skips scale - again

TORONTO - If only Mayor Rob Ford could cut his calories like he cuts his weigh-ins.

Ford’s office announced Tuesday morning his Cut the Waist meeting with the scale would be cancelled again this week.

“Please note that today’s weigh-in is cancelled,” a press release from the mayor’s office stated Tuesday. “Details of a rescheduled weigh-in will be provided in a forthcoming media advisory.”

George Christopoulos, the mayor’s press secretary, said the mayor had morning meetings and couldn’t make the weigh-in.

Last week, Ford didn’t weigh in and announced he’d be cutting his weekly weigh-ins back to only every two weeks. His office confirmed at that time that there would be a weigh-in this week.

Ford has been struggling to lose weight since he started the weight-loss campaign in January with his brother, Councillor Doug Ford.

The mayor — who frequently calls himself “300 pounds of fun” — weighed in at 330 pounds when the weigh-ins began.

Both Fords set the goal of losing 50 pounds by June.

While losing some weight at the beginning, Mayor Ford’s weight is now climbing again — he weighed in at 314 pounds the last time he stepped on the scale.

Councillor Ford is down about 28 pounds since the campaign began. He weighed in at 247 pounds two weeks ago.
