TORONTO - NDP MP Olivia Chow could leave Parliament Hill and crush Ford Nation, according to a new poll.

A Forum Research poll conducted this week found Chow would beat Mayor Rob Ford if an election were held today.

Around 58% of the 1,212 Toronto residents polled said they would vote for Chow for mayor, while only 34% said they would vote for Ford. Just 8% said they were undecided.

“Her numbers are huge and they are everywhere in the city,” Forum president Lorne Bozinoff told the Sun Friday.

Chow, widow of NDP leader Jack Layton and a former Toronto councillor, has been discussed as a possible contender to face Ford in the 2014 election.

According to the poll, Chow would win the downtown and beat Ford on his suburban turf in Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough.

Although an election is more than two years away, Bozinoff said the numbers would be tough for Chow to ignore.
