TORONTO - The whole city is invited to Ford Fest next week.
Mayor Rob Ford is planning on holding the annual party in the backyard of his family home on Sept. 7 — a week from this Friday.
The mayor wasn’t backing down Wednesday from his invite issued on NEWSTALK 1010 a day earlier for the “whole city” to attend the festival of Ford.
“It’s on a Friday night so a lot of people will be coming and going,” Ford said. “We put about 5,000 (people) in our backyard so people come and go.”
Ford said he keeps doing the event because it is a “tradition.”
Councillor Ford sang the praises of the 12-year-old party.
“You know what is the best about Ford Fest? Come by and you take a snapshot of the crowd, that is Toronto,” Ford said.
“It is the most diverse crowd in every area from race, religion, you name it, from some of the wealthiest people to the poorest people, all in a backyard, all sharing one night, having a great time and sharing ideas. That is what Rob is, is diverse.”
“Come by, take a look, you’ll have a great time ... it is open to the whole city.”
Councillor Ford said he expects 3,000 to 4,000 people to show up but they’ll have 5,000 burgers for the crowd.
