EDMONTON - Dignitaries poured into the Alberta legislature Monday to pay respects to late Tory premier Peter Lougheed.

Among them were Premier Alison Redford, Mayor Stephen Mandel, former premiers Ed Stelmach and Don Getty, and MLAs including Liberal leader Raj Sherman and NDP leader Brian Mason. Wildrose Party leader Danielle Smith, who was not in Edmonton, was represented by Joe Anglin.

Mounties flanked Lougheed’s casket, which was draped in a half-Canada, half-Alberta flag in the legislature rotunda. Each dignitary exchanged hugs and handshakes with Lougheed’s children Stephen, Joe and Kathleen.

Members of the public lined up outside and waited for the chance to pay their respects at the public service.

Lougheed passed away last week at age 84.
