OTTAWA -- NDP MP and former Toronto city councillor Olivia Chow says she will consider her "role" in a municipal byelection if one is on the table.

Chow, who is a possible contender for mayor of Toronto, told Ottawa reporters she is waiting to see how Rob Ford's ouster from office plays out in the courts.

Before becoming a federal MP, Chow served on Toronto city council alongside her late husband and former NDP leader Jack Layton.

Ford was found guilty of violating conflict of interest rules on Monday, which led him to lose his job. But Ford says he will appeal the decision in the next few days.
