TORONTO — Mayor Rob Ford, facing expulsion from office Dec. 10, is eligible to try to reclaim his job if city council opts for a byelection, sources tell QMI Agency.

Judge Charles Hackland had ordered Ford out of office because of a conflict-of-interest violation, but observers were confused by a line in the judgment that said Ford was disqualified "for the current term."

City solicitor Anna Kinastowski said she interpreted that to mean Ford was unable to run again until 2014, when his term would normally end.
