Scandal-ridden ex-Montreal mayor to get $216K in severance
By Jean-Louis Fortin, QMI Agency

Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay. (EMMANUEL DELACOUR/QMI Agency)

MONTREAL - Gerald Tremblay, Montreal's former mayor who quit amid multiple corruption allegations last month, will receive an expensive Christmas gift this year: severance cheques totaling more than $216,000, QMI Agency has learned.

Tremblay, who resigned on Nov. 5 amid a campaign financing scandal, will receive two cheques from taxpayers who were ripped off by a cartel of Mafia-linked contractors and dirty bureaucrats under his watch.

Santa will even pay an early visit to Tremblay's home, since he'll receive his first cheque on Dec. 13, according to reports from the city clerk's office.
