Canada's funding to Palestinian Authority under review

OTTAWA - Canada's aid funding to the Palestinian Authority is under review -- but Foreign Affairs says a final decision won't be based on the recent vote at the UN.

A spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said the UN and Mideast envoys had a "healthy exchange" with Baird and International Co-operation Minister Julian Fantino Tuesday about the Palestinian Authority's successful bid to upgrade to semi-state status at the UN.

No decisions have yet been made on how the government will proceed following the pow-wow with the four mission heads after their temporarily recall in the wake of last week's vote.

"It was a good briefing -- a healthy exchange on where we are and where we want to go," Rick Roth said.
