Feds deliver blow to human smuggling

OTTAWA - Police and border officials say they have cracked an international human smuggling ring in Canada, and have detained dozens under new legislation.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Wednesday that 85 people were detained after they attempted to illegally cross the border in Vermont, at Stanstead, Que.

Kenny said they arrived in five groups over months, and are part of an organized ring that originated in Romania.
