Ontario injects cash into school security

TORONTO — Ontario will spend $10 million so that every elementary school in the province can lock its doors during the day.

Premier Dalton McGuinty announced the renewed funding for the Safe Welcome Program Thursday at St. Fidelas Catholic school in Toronto.

In the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the Newtown, Conn., last week, Ontario needs to ask itself if it’s taking all reasonable steps to see schools at safe, McGuinty said.
