Audits flagged problems in Attawapiskat

Chief Theresa Spence's boosters say other audits have found no money missing at the remote northern Ontario reserve.

But the previously mandated annual audits of the band looked only at numbers and did not assess "value for money" like the Deloitte and Touche audit did this week.

After a comprehensive review looking back six years, the international firm found that 80% of transactions lacked proof, records and paperwork.

Accountants say there is a big difference between the two methods of auditing.
