Plagiarizing TDSB head should face 'sanctions': Ford

TORONTO — Mayor Rob Ford says there should be "major sanctions" against the public school board's education director, who admitted he plagiarized an op-ed column.

Asked what sanctions Chris Spence should face, Ford said the plagiarism is "pretty severe."

"You can't be the director of education and plagiarizing," he said.

Spence apologized Wednesday for plagiarizing parts of an op-ed he wrote for the Toronto Star this month. On Thursday, the National Post uncovered another example of plagiarism in a separate Spence op-ed.

Toronto District School Board trustees are expected to have a special meeting soon to deal with Spence's plagiarism.
