OTTAWA - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty denies he broke any rules or guidelines in writing to the federal broadcast regulator to support a radio station application from Durham Radio, a company in his constituency.

Flaherty told the CRTC in March he felt Durham Radio's new station would "broaden the radio market" in Toronto by playing unique music.

The NDP accused Flaherty of pushing around his ministerial weight and putting his "political interests ahead of respecting conflict of interest rules."

Durham Radio's bid for a new station was ultimately turned down.
