Tory spending spree in overdrive
By MARK DUNN, Senior National Reporter

Canada's spending spree

OTTAWA - If all politics are local, as the adage goes, then the Conservative government seized the moment Tuesday by handing out nearly $205 million to fix doors and windows, retrofit libraries and arenas and mega projects.

With the House of Commons on hiatus until Monday, MPs and cabinet ministers fanned out across the country to get their mugs in the pages of local newspapers in dozens of communities on the receiving end of tax dollars.

There is nothing new about Tuesday's splash of cash.

Since MPs fled Ottawa for the holidays Dec. 13, QMI Agency found that 151 cheques worth about $1.5 billion have been doled out.
