Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney will leave his post in July to assume the same position at the Bank of England, but he is vowing to come home eventually.

In an interview with CTV's Question Period on Sunday, Carney said he will return to Canada after he is finished working in one of the most critical roles in global finance.

"I'm Canadian and most comfortable in this country," Carney said. "This is where my friends are, this is obviously where my family is.

"And it's just a natural ... there's a big challenge that I've been offered. Very much looking forward to it ... but in the end ... I'll come back and bother you."

Earlier this month, Carney, 47, assured British MPs he did not have political aspirations in Canada during questioning from the Treasury Select Committee.

Carney has accepted a five-year term but Bank of England governors traditionally stay on for an eight-year period.
