OTTAWA — Justin Trudeau says Parliament is less relevant nowadays and ethics rules governing MPs allow him to skip his duties to freelance as a high-priced gabber on the speakers' circuit.
A day after running from Sun News Network cameras in Quebec, the self-confessed millionaire stopped long enough Thursday to respond to questions.
But when asked if he would return portions of his $158,000 salary for those days he was on tour earning upwards of $20,000 per speech, the Liberal leadership hopeful delivered a rambling explanation of how a politician's work isn't a nine-to-five job and he works weekends and that his constituents expect him to travel to represent their values.
