OTTAWA - The call is out for a massively improved effort to get American allies' special forces working together more effectively.
"We don't have the fiscal capability, the manpower and the resources to go it alone," the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, Admiral Bill McRaven said Friday.
He told the Ottawa Defence and Security Conference that countries must not let down their guard because terrorists motivated by ideology and greed will continue to threaten the world.
"Like it or not, I believe we are in an era of persistent conflict," said McRaven. "There is no such thing as a local problem. Every problem can become a global phenomenon at the speed of (an) electron."
