OTTAWA - Canadian politicians are flooding south of the border to sell U.S. lawmakers still on the fence over the Keystone XL pipeline on the project's merits.
Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver is the just latest to announce he's heading to the United States to promote the Conservative environmental record and drum up support for TransCanada's $7-billion Alberta-to-Texas project.
"I remain cautiously optimistic but we want to do what we think is necessary to get the facts out," Oliver said in Ottawa Thursday. "On the facts, we have a very strong case."
Oliver will travel to Chicago and Houston next week. He will also make a later trip to Washington to meet with outgoing U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu's successor.
