TORONTO - Paul Rose is dead. Hallelujah! Good riddance. Long overdue. Couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Rose was boss of the FLQ terrorist cell that kidnapped and strangled Quebec labour minister Pierre Laporte in the 1970s’ October Crisis. He spent barely 10 years in jail for that despicable crime.
Then he ran for the provincial NDP. Yes, he did.
Too bad Guantanamo Bay wasn’t around back then.
Rose died of a stroke Thursday in Montreal’s Sacre-Coeur Hospital at age 69.
If you’re not sure who the Beatles were, let alone Paul Rose, you may wonder at my morbid glee.
Well, frankly, I felt much the same when Clifford Olson died in 2011.
They’re both killers, just different breeds, yet one came out smelling like, well, a rose.
Let me take you back ...
