Every December, Earth crosses the orbital path of asteroid 3200 Phaethon, leading to one of the most intense meteor showers on the year, the Geminid shower. 2013’s display will be streaking across the sky from Dec. 12-16, though the peak is expected between midnight and sunrise on Saturday.
