No, the feds should butt out of labour negotiations.

WINNIPEG (Sun Media) - These models aren't tall, blond or skinny but they certainly know how to strut their stuff.

Dogs of various sizes took part in a canine fashion show yesterday afternoon at Best West Pet Foods on Henderson Highway.

"I love animals. It's just so fun to watch them dress up," said Lauren Malbranck, 11. "It's pretty cool."

Malbranck -- who came to the event along with family, friends and her dog, Becky -- said she occasionally tries out the latest fashion trends with the Dalmatian-golden retriever cross.

'IT'S A LOT OF FUN'

Organizer Leona Schmidt has worked in the pet industry for about 17 years and was pleased people took an interest in the event. However, she had hoped for a few more spectators.

About 30 people came out for the fashion show, the first the pet and pet supply store has held.

"It's a lot of fun," Schmidt said while the dogs showed off the designs. "I find it very, very impressive to see how people dedicate so much time and effort to their pets."

Eight dogs and seven owners paraded around the store's parking lot while animals wore everything from life-jackets and beachwear to hoodies and evening wear.

All of the items featured can be purchased at the store.

"She doesn't seem to mind it at all," Judy Juryn said of her terrier Trixie, who modeled multiple looks during the show.

Many of the people who took in the fashion show brought their own dogs with them and said it was a good opportunity for their pets to socialize.

Proceeds from a barbecue held in conjunction with the event will go to D'Arcy's ARC, a no-kill animal shelter in the city.

Best West Employee Tara Cwiak and her chihuahua Cricket also took part in the show.

"She has little T-shirts and jackets, so she is doing quite well," said Cwiak.
