Whisky ruined man's wedding proposal
By NEIL BOWEN, QMI Agency

SARNIA - Maybe he was looking for a little liquid courage?

Last September, a Sarnia, Ont. man got drunk before proposing to the woman he loves. As he was driving home, going over in his head how he would propose that very night, he was pulled over and charged with impaired driving. He spent that night in a holding cell.

Sarnia police stopped Christopher English, 44, on London Road after his vehicle repeatedly crossed the centre line and ran a stop sign Sept. 11.

When officers searched his vehicle they found a bottle of whisky, a quantity of ice and an engagement ring.

He pled guilty Tuesday to driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit. He was fined $3,000.

"I hope I will never be that stupid again," English told the court.

English did ask his girlfriend to marry him the next day and she said yes.

The couple are now married.
