A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly performing circumcisions on men without a licence.

Thomas Alan Heugel, 56, of Sparta was arrested March 4 and charged after he allegedly portrayed himself as a medical doctor to his patients and performed circumcisions, body piercings and gave massages in his home.

A release from the Kent County Sheriffs Office says police believe Heugel may have performed these procedures on "many unsuspecting victims."

A police spokesman told local television station WZZM 13 that Heugel had a mini operating room in his home, he wore a lab coat and administered local anesthetic before doing any of the procedures. He posted ads on Craigslist and adult website adam4adam.com.

The spokesman also said all the individuals who had circumcisions consented to the procedure, although police aren't sure why.

Police say Heugel also claimed to be a former army doctor, but a neighbour told WZZM 13 that Heugel said he was "a retired EMT or something."
