Ontario town cancels outhouse races
By QMI Agency
COCHRANE, Ont. — The annual outhouse races in this northern Ontario community have been cancelled. Organizer Karrie Peace said there weren't enough entries this year in order to have the Great Western Outhouse Races. This would have been the 11th year that teams, dressed in costume, raced their home-made outhouses down the street. “People are just saying they don’t have the resources, they don’t have the staff to run them. It was like Cochrane just kind of pooped out,” said Peace, owner of the store Heavenly Out House. “Last year was the best races ever. We had so much energy and it was so good. I think the economy is kicking the butt out of Cochrane, that’s my guess. I just don’t know. I just don’t know why people were not willing to come through this year.” Peace said she has exhausted her efforts to recruit teams and next year she plans to widen her scope beyond Cochrane to find more people to take part. |
