LONDON, Ont. - The Middlesex-London Health Unit in southwestern Ontario will launch a sequel to its controversial, yet popular, online game Adventures in Sex City to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections.
The agency recently recruited eight youths, who will participate in focus groups and education sessions geared toward creating Part 2 of the game, which stars safe-sex superheroes “Captain Condom” and “Wonder Vag.”
Meanwhile, the two characters - known as the Sex Squad – hit the streets of downtown London, Ont., on Saturday night, handing out condoms and information to bar-goers.
"The costumes draw so much attention, and it's good attention, no negativity," said Shaya Dhinsa, manager of sexual health promotion for the health unit. "We gave out hundreds of the packages of condoms, lube and mini-posters about our website."
The health unit introduced Captain Condom and Wonder Vag last February, with the launch of its online sexual health game to some controversy.
Players choose from four Sex Squad characters - Captain Condom, Wonder Vag, Power Pap and Willy the Kid - to battle the evil Sperminator, who wants to infect everyone in Sex City with sexually transmitted infections.
Though met with several complaints locally, the game (at getitonlondon.com) became an instant international hit a week after launching, when wildly popular celebrity blogger Perez Hilton featured it on his website.
