A Texas mother delivered a 16-lb. baby boy on Friday, more than double the size of an average newborn.

JaMichael Brown was born by caesarean section to mother Janet Johnson in Longsview, Tex.

"When they pulled the baby out, they could tell that he was huge," Johnson told local news station CBS 19. "And then they weighed him."

Brown, at two-feet-long and 16 lbs. and two ounces, is being fed through a feeding tube and doctors are closely monitoring his blood sugar. He has a full head of hair.

Mary Beth said in her 20 years as a nurse, she's never seen a newborn so big.

"(He's) a beautiful baby," she said. "But for health reasons, we'd rather not see a baby this large."

The mother was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and doctors say that may be the reason for the baby boy's extra bounce.

According to Guinness World Records, a Canadian mother gave birth to the world's largest baby at more than 23 lbs. in 1879. But the infant died 11 hours after birth.

Last year, a woman in Indonesia delivered a 19-lb. baby.
