Man kept dead dad in living room for months

A British man was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison because he kept the body of his dead father in his home to collect the man's benefits.
Christopher Blackburn, 29, of Lancashire, England, pleaded guilty in January to theft and preventing lawful and decent burial of a dead body, police said in a release.
Court heard police arrived at Blackburn's home on March 22, 2011, after neighbours called with concerns. When officers entered the home, they found the body of Guy Blackburn, 54, on a bed in the living room.
A post-mortem determined Guy Blackburn had died of natural causes several months earlier, police said.
Media reports said Christopher Blackburn told his daughter her grandpa was just sleeping.
Blackburn admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from his father's bank account, where income support payments continued to be made after his death.
"It was a challenging crime and one that most members of the community will have found appalling and I am pleased that Blackburn has now been punished for what he did," Det. Insp. Marc Nasser said.
