Talking urinal cakes urge customers not to drink and drive

No, you're not so blotto that you're hearing voices. The toilet in a Michigan bar really is talking to you.

State police figured they'd hit guys right between the eyes with the message not to drink and drive on the Fourth of July holiday. This week, they unveiled talking urinal cakes that remind customers to call a cab or a friend and get home safely.

The cakes are printed with the words "Call a ride. Get home safe."

But for those who may be seeing double, the cakes also speak.

When a stream strikes the cake, a female voice says, "Listen up. That's right, I'm talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many? Then do yourself and everyone else a favour: Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don't forget, wash your hands."

Federal funding paid for the urinal cakes to be distributed to around 200 bars in four Michigan counties.

"While this message isn't new, the method of delivery certainly is," said Michigan State Police spokesman Michael L. Prince in a statement. "Not only do we want to turn some heads and get people talking, we hope everyone takes the message to heart."
