Man texts 'I need to quit texting' then drives off bridge

A man who texted while driving "I need to quit texting because I could die in a car accident" nearly died in a car accident when his truck plunged off a bridge and into a ravine.

Chance Bothe, 21, got a second chance at life — but only after extensive surgery and more than six months of rehabilitation at a hospital in Houston, Texas.

The college student was driving his pickup and messaging a friend on Jan. 24, KHOU News reports. After the text admonishing himself for texting, he wrote "b right there."

Then his truck veered off a bridge and plummeted 35 feet.

Bothe suffered traumatic brain injuries, a broken neck, a punctured lung, compound leg fractures, a fractured skull, sternum and rib fractures, and a fractured face that required reconstructive surgery, according to the report. Doctors had to bring him back to life three times.

Now he's preaching the gospel of safe driving.

"What people have told me is the reason God didn't keep you away from this Earth is because you have something special to do. And I believe what is special is that I should tell everyone not to text message and drive," he told KHOU.
