Cops investigating 'free baby' ad

Police in Victoria, B.C., are investigating an ad posted on a buy-and-sell website that offered up a baby "free to a good home."

The ad on UsedVictoria.com included a picture of an infant.

Someone reported the ad to police on Monday, and cops are working with the Internet service provider to track down whoever is behind it.

The possibility that it was just a prank hasn't been ruled out.

"We're certainly hoping it's a hoax," Const. Mike Russell told radio station News1130. "It's not a funny hoax, but I'd rather see that than some child who actually is being offered up for free."

The ad has since been taken down.
