Iceland Internet providers may block porn sites
By QMI Agency

(QMI Agency)

Anyone who wants to surf porn in Iceland may soon have to ask their Internet service provider for it, as the country's two largest ISPs consider blocking access to those sites.

Vodafone and Siminn may not allow content from porn, gambling or other "questionable" websites to reach customers, the English-language Reykjavik Grapevine reported, citing the country's national broadcaster RUV.

A spokesman for Vodafone told reporters the move is not meant to censor but rather to protect customers from the viruses and malware that are rampant on such sites.

If implemented, users who wanted to risk it would have to request access to their preferred sites.
