The University of Chicago's admissions department determined how a detailed Indiana Jones journal was delivered to them last week.

The replica journal of Abner Ravenwood — Indiana Jones's mentor and a University of Chicago professor in the film Raiders of the Lost Ark — showed up in a bin of mail. The university said on its Tumblr page Monday afternoon that the journal was made by "Ravenbar," a vendor on eBay who sells the Raiders of the Lost Ark notebooks. Ravenbar, whose real name is Paul, lives in Guam.

On Sunday, Paul got a letter from a U.S. mail sorting facility in Hawaii saying that they'd found the outer package of something he'd sold without its contents.

"According to Paul, this package was en route from him in Guam to his intended recipient IN ITALY (registered mail confirmation attached) when it must have fallen out of the package in Hawaii," the university says. "Our address had originally been put on the manila wrapping of the journal just for cosmetic effect. We believe that the post office wrote on our Zip code on the outside of the package and, believing the Egyptian postage was real, sent it our way."

Paul told the university he will make a new journal for the buyer and they can keep the one that wound its way to them. The university's admissions department said the journal may find a home at the university's Oriental Institute.
