Cookie Monster is holding a famous golden biscuit hostage.
And the company that the biscuit belongs to is pleading with the Sesame Street character to return the cookie.
A large golden Leibniz biscuit that hung outside the Hannover headquarters of German cookie company Bahlsen since 1913 went missing earlier this month, The Local news website reports.
On Tuesday, local newspaper the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung received a ransom note.
"I have the biscuit!" the note, made from words cut from newspapers, says. "You want it and therefore you want on one day in February, to give biscuits to all the children in Bult hospital. But those with milk chocolate, not those with dark chocolate and not those without chocolate. And a golden biscuit for the child cancer ward."
The note, which was signed "Cookie Monster," was accompanied by a photo of a person wearing a plush blue Cookie Monster holding the golden biscuit.
The note also said that Bahlsen should donate the reward (of about $1,350) for the return of the biscuit to an animal shelter instead.
Bahlsen says the theft isn't a publicity stunt, The Local reports.
And in a message on its Facebook page Thursday, addressed to the cookie monster, the company promised to donate 52,000 packages of cookies to charities if the golden biscuit, which weighs 44 pounds, is returned.
Bahlsen was founded in July 1889, and its best-known product is the Leibniz butter biscuit.
