Iceland is looking to ban online porn.

Interior Minister Ögmundur Jónasson is drafting legislation to block the European island's access to pornographic websites on computers, smartphones and videogame consoles.

"We have to be able to discuss a ban on violent pornography, which we all agree has very harmful effects on young people and can have a clear link to incidences of violent crime," Jónasson said, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Banning porn in the remote country isn't so far fetched. The nation has already banned porn in print, but not on the web.

"At the moment, we are looking at the best technical ways to achieve this. But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the Internet," Halla Gunnarsdóttir, political adviser to the interior minister, told the Daily Mail.

The move would make Iceland the first Western democracy to attempt to censor the Internet.

About 320,000 people live in Iceland.
