After being on the run for nearly 15 months, a murder suspect tried to turn himself in to police in Sweden Monday night -- only to be turned away because the police station was closed and directed to another one.

The 45-year-old is wanted in connection with the November 2011 slaying of a gang leader in Malmo, and rang the bell at a police station in the city shortly after 6 p.m., The Local reports.

He was told the police station was closed and directed to another station where he was placed under arrest, the news website reported.

"Closed? I'm suspected of murder and a wanted man -- you guys really want to get a hold of me," the suspect reportedly said into the intercom.

A Malmo police commander told a local newspaper that ongoing renovations could explain why the suspect was turned away.
