The European Parliament will consider on Tuesday a resolution to ban pornography and take measures to make the Internet comply.

The vote stems from a December report on "eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU," which addresses issues including pay gaps and the under-representation of women in business and government.

The resolution also aims to combat discrimination in the media "especially by portraying women as sex objects."

Article 17 calls for the member states of the EU "to take concrete action" on a 1997 resolution "which called for a ban on all forms of pornography in the media and on the advertising of sex tourism."

Article 19 calls for sanctions on companies promoting the "sexualization of girls."

Article 14 addresses the "digital field" and the creation of "a charter to which all Internet operators will be invited to adhere."

The 69-action resolution goes farther than legislation recently drafted in Iceland that would ban online porn.

The report doesn't define "pornography."
