Donald Trump maintains lawsuit against Bill Maher for his bet

Donald Trump says he's letting the courts decide whether or not comedian Bill Maher was joking when he made a $5 million bet for the billionaire to prove he's not the "spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan."

"Honestly, he made an offer, I accepted the offer," Trump told the hosts of The View on Tuesday, Politico reported.

"He didn't say it was a joke (at the time). We're going to find out if it was a joke. The courts will tell."

In January, Maher said on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno he'd pay $5 million to a charity of Trump's choice if he released his birth record to prove his father isn't an ape.

Trump produced his birth certificate proving otherwise, and Maher refused to pony up the cash, calling the remark satirical.

Last month, Trump filed a lawsuit in California against Maher.
