A group of black drag queens invited to perform at a Santa Claus parade in a small Alabama town said instead of cheers, they received jeers.
The Prancing Elites said they were invited by parade organizers in the town of Semmes, but their excitement was quickly quelled by the reaction of the crowd on Saturday.
On its Facebook page, the group denied tricking parade organizers.
"If we were such a 'disgrace,' why would the officials allow us to continue moving through to the parade at the line up?"
Parade-goer Claudia Davis told Fox 10 she was "outraged and appalled" by the appearance of the cross-dressing dancers. Some comments on the article said the parade is "no place for that kind of behaviour" because children were there.
"This is disgusting and the people of Semmes will make sure this won't happen again," a commenter identified as c.kirksey said. "It's not negativity, it's knowing what's moral and what's not."
