His luscious red locks have earned him the nickname The Glorious Ranga Mullet.

Now, University of Queensland student and "campus celebrity" Patrick Hackett is using his business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back hairstyle to raise money for cancer.

The student union called Hackett their "secret weapon" as they hope to raise $10,000.

Hackett, who is well-known on the campus for his hair, began growing his current mullet at the start of 2012. Fans of his 80s hairstyle have even dedicated a page to him on Facebook, which has nearly 9,000 likes,

Hackett said he's both "excited and hopeful" taking part in an event that will help raise the full amount for the Leukemia Foundation.

The public shaving will take place Thursday.
