A Florida high school is hoping to raise money to pay for its graduation ceremony by charging parents $200 for premium seats.

In a letter to parents in November, the principal of Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla., said that due to rising costs, parents would be expected to pay $20 to just attend the event and watch their child get their diploma.

Students were told they had to pay the $20 fee before they would be allowed to buy tickets for other events, including prom.

But the school board recently added the better $200 seats to help cover costs, Fox 5 reports.

Parent Mark Domer told the television station the cost for better seats is "discriminatory."

"Economically, socially, socio-economically, it's just not fair," he said.
