A 12-year-old boy in France who desperately wanted to avoid going to the dentist faked his own kidnapping, according to reports.

The boy, who lives in the Alpine town of Bagnols, told police he was abducted May 21 at 4:30 p.m. while on his way to a medical appointment, the Midi Libre newspaper reported.

He gave police a full description of the man who snatched him, including details that the man was wearing a black shirt and jeans and had a scar on his face.

The boy described the car and said the man had pulled over to ask directions when he grabbed the boy. He said he was able to escape when the man stopped in Saint Gervais, 300 km northeast of his hometown.

Police became suspicious of the story and last week, the boy admitted he made the whole thing up because he was afraid to go to his dentist appointment.
