WELLAND, Ont. — A frightened deer who crashed through a window and into a Port Colborne, Ont., home on Sunday had to be coaxed out of the bathroom by police.

It's believed the deer came out of a nearby field and thought the window was a way back into a forest.

"Maybe because it's such a big window, it could see the reflection of the trees," said Debbie DiPasquale, who lives next door and went running outside to see what was happening when police and firefighters pulled up.

After smashing through the window, the deer ran through the house, then got stuck in a main floor bathroom.

Police coaxed it outside through a back door and it ran off down the street.

It appeared to have suffered a cut to its leg.

Damage to the front window and inside the house is estimated at $5,000.
